The Dibrugarh Municipal Board is one of the oldest municipalities in North East India. The Dibrugarh Municipality is responsible for uplifting the quality of the lives of the people by serving them in various aspects like property tax, maintenance of road, sanitation, street maintenance and so on. Established in 1873, the present Dibrugarh Municipal Board has a jurisdiction of over 15.40 sq km of area and is divided into 22 wards.
The city since then has become an important nerve center of political, administrative, cultural and commercial activities of a vast region comprising entire eastern Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Dibrugarh is the administrative headquarters of Dibrugrah district of Assam. The “Tea City of India”, Dibrugarh is also gradually emerging as the industrial and communication hub in the Northeast. It is located 435 kms East from the state capital of Dispur. It serves as the headquarters of Dibrugarh district in the state of Assam in India. The district of Dibrugarh with only one sub-division is situated in the eastern part of Assam. The district is surrounded by Dhemaji district and a part of Lakhimpur district in the north, part of Sivasagar district and Arunachal Pradesh in the south, Tinsukia district in the East and Sivasagar dist in the West. The district occupies an area of 3381 Sq Km.
